Conductor Helmut Pfahls: A farewell full of music and emotions!

On May 2, 2025, 28 active members of the Orchestra Original Kasseler Musikanten (OKM) will meet under the direction of conductor Helmut Pfahls for the last rehearsal before the upcoming concert at the end of May. Pfahls, which has successfully conducted the orchestra since February 2022, attaches particular importance to dynamics, intonation and flowing breathing technique. During this sample -intensive time, he expressed his anticipation for the upcoming appearances, but also emphasized the need for a straight seating and smile during play.

In the past three years, Pfahls has made decisive progress in the sound and in the harmony of the orchestra, which he took over in a critical condition due to the effects of Corona pandemic. The orchestra not only brought its commitment back to a stable ability to play, but also led to many positive feedback from members and spectators. Joachim Fleckenstein, member of the organization team, praised Pfahls for his remarkable work and the successes that the orchestra achieved under his leadership.

a fresh start with Uli Staab

In May the change is now at the top of the orchestra. Helmut Pfahls is handed over to Uli Staab's conductor. Staab, an experienced conductor who led the OKM tribe orchestra for almost 30 years, takes over the management of start 07, a department of the orchestra. Ulrich Mann, 1st Chairman of the OKM, is pleased with the seamless handover and would like to thank Pfahls for his commitment.

During today's rehearsal, Staab already took over the second part of the trial day in which he led the former wind class. Pfahls uses the remaining time to motivate the musicians to bring their emotions into the music.

a look into the past

The original Kassel musicians were founded in 1974 by a group of young musicians and initially rehearsed in a basement. Over the years, the association developed to a significant part of the local cultural scene. The OKM granted numerous appearances on various occasions, including weddings and birthday parties, and set their name in 1978. Since then the orchestra has celebrated significant anniversaries and gave numerous concerts, including international appearances in Belgium and the Czech Republic.
