Fight for the future: Hesse's auto industry under pressure!

International automobile manufacturers such as VW and Stellantis (Opel) face considerable challenges. The VW plant in Kassel and the Opel plant in Rüsselsheim urgently need solutions to reduce energy costs, since increasing prices affect the competitiveness of the companies. Hesse's Minister of Economic Affairs Kaweh Mansori (SPD) emphasizes that the reduction in energy costs is a crucial lever to support the auto industry. Measures such as the expansion of electricity motorways should help relieve the industry.

The black and red coalition has decided against a legal priority for earth cables. These are 15 percent more expensive than overhead lines and could cause total costs of around 30 billion euros. Such additional costs could be exposed to companies and consumers. Airbus to fluctuate the energy costs is therefore a central topic in Hesse.

Current developments in the auto industry

Opel in Rüsselsheim has already switched to one-shift operation, which underlines the tense situation. The VW plant Kassel had terminated employment securing in the past, but excluded operational terminations by 2023. These developments show how critically the situation in the Hessian auto industry is, which also depends on large influencing factors such as energy costs.

In order to meet the challenges of the industry, Hessen relies on future technologies. One example is the Darmstadt -based company "Focused Energy", which works on market -loving fusion energy. This technology could offer considerable potential for energy supply, especially at a time when independence from energy imports is becoming increasingly important.

Another company that contributes to supporting the automotive industry is Vulcan Energy in Karlsruhe. It produces lithium hydroxide for e-car batteries, with the lithium made of thermal water. The lithium hydroxide is further processed in Frankfurt-Höchst. The goal is to produce basic materials for the production of German batteries at competitive prices, which is decisive in view of the increasing need for electromobility.

perspectives for the future

The meetings of compact ethics and technological progress in Hesse could be key to strengthening the auto industry. A statistical report on the producer prices of commercial products find that developments in the energy prices are decisive in order to analyze the economic framework for companies. The last publication at energy prices in January 2023 made it clear that the pressure on the automobile manufacturers is increasing to find sustainable solutions.

Hesse's Minister of Economic Affairs Mansoori emphasizes that the country's impact options should not be overrated and not underestimated with regard to the energy situation. The time will show whether the measures and technology corresponding to the technology are sufficient to successfully manage the challenges of the auto industry in Hesse.
