Drama at the Jännerrallye: Waldherr fights back into the race!
The Jännerrallye 2025 in Upper Austria was disappointing for the Austrian rally driver Luca Waldherr. After a promising start and a best time on the first day, he fell to fourth place due to technical problems. On Sunday, Waldherr, who had the goal of getting under the top three, could no longer take part in the rally, because he did not appear at the start because of a defective water pump, as the NÖN reported.
The Jännerrallye took place around Freistadt and offered a challenging route that was also made more difficult by slightly continuing snow. This influenced the conditions for the remaining starters, including Michael Lengauer, who led on Sunday morning with over 42.5 seconds ahead of Simon Wagner. On the first exam of the day (SP 12 in Windhaag), Lengauer was 16 seconds faster than Wagner and doubled his lead to 34 seconds. In addition, Lengauer set up another record in the Sportarena Tannermoor Liebenau, reported . .
further developments in the rally
Jan Cerny is currently taking third place in Citroën C3 Rally2, while Hermann Neubauer achieved the best time in special examination 14 Windhaag despite a cumbersome change of the windshield of his Ford Fiesta Rally2. Christoph Zellhofer was able to move into the top ten with the Suzuki Swift Zmx with sixth best times at the first two daily exams. Lukas Schindelegger gave up the rally due to coughing fits.
The Sunday afternoon still promises excitement because four exams are due and the overall winner should be determined around 3:30 p.m.
