According to world in 1901 one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, however Royal Air Force was severely destroyed. Historian Horst Boog described this attack as the most severe disaster of a German city since the air raid on Hamburg.
The attack only took 22 minutes, with about 500 four -engine bombers off a total of 1,812 tons of bombs. The degree of destruction in Kassel was higher at 164.1 than in Hamburg, and at least 7,000 to over 10,000 of the 226,000 inhabitants were killed. The destruction limited the possibilities for proper reconstruction and made it difficult to remember the previous Jewish community, which was drastically decimated during the Third Reich.
