Tempo 30 in Kassel: Noise protection for quiet nights from now on!

In Kassel, important changes are pending in the traffic regime. From January 14, 2025, new Tempo 30 signs will be set up to reduce the nightly traffic noise. These measures are part of the 2019 noise action plan, which aims to reduce health impairments for residents. The speed restriction comes into force from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and now covers eleven sections of the route that can be considered harmful to health.

Since mid-September 2024, a section of Frankfurter Straße between Auestadion crossing and Park Schönfeld Tempo 30. With the new year, this regulation was extended to Kurt-Schumacher-Straße between Mittelgasse and the old market crossing. On January 15, 2025, signs on Leipziger Straße between Altmarkt and Platz der Deutschen Unity will be set up, a further step to reduce the nightly noise.

The city administration plans to introduce additional speed 30 areas in the near future. These include:

• Frankfurter Straße from Korbacher to Leuschnerstraße
• Wolfhager Straße between Mombach and Gelnhäuser Straße as well as between Harleshäuser and Obervellmarer Straße
• Obervellmarer Straße between Lilienweg and Wolfhager Straße

The city of Kassel is making an important sign of the noise protection and health of its citizens with these new speed restrictions. Future measurements and ratings will show how effective these measures are actually to increase the quality of life in the affected areas.
