The data published by the Federal Statistical Office prove a significant increase in the employment participation of older workers in recent years. The employment rate of the 60- to 64-year-olds rose from 50% in 2013 to 65% in 2023. For the 65- to 69-year-olds, the increase from 13% to 20% is also remarkable. These numbers show that more and more older people want to actively participate in working life.
2023 69% of the 60- to 64-year-old men and 61% of women in Germany were employed. In the 65- to 69-year-olds, the odds were 24% for men and 17% for women. The demographic change and legal changes that gradually raise the retirement age to 67 years have contributed to the fact that older workers stay in their professional life longer.
