Vocational training in Dillenburg: Future prospects for the youth!

The Lahn-Dill district actively campaigns for future-oriented vocational training. The school management of the Dillenburg Commercial Schools (GSD) has discussed the current training requirements and perspectives in a conversation with the district's business development. One of the main goals is the early sensitization of young people for apprenticeships.

A central project In this context is the initiative for more training (IMA), which has been offering professional orientation workshops for primary school children since 2022. These workshops are intended to raise awareness that learning goes beyond basic skills such as reading, writing and writing. In addition, the often existing distance to vocational school is to be dismantled. Trainees are actively involved in the implementation of these workshops and thus contribute to practical professional orientation.

vocational training for all ages

The middle school school in cooperation with the Comenius School-Herborn enables job-related lessons on one day a week. Here, pupils of the 8th and 9th grades learn different main topics across the school year. Currently, 264 students are participating in this project.

In addition, the Schuleplus School project supports both a school leaving certificate and an apprenticeship in parallel. District Administrator Carsten Braun emphasizes the importance of these projects for future training in the Lahn-Dill district.

Another focus is on strengthening dual training in Hesse as part of the project "Future -capable vocational school". In order to secure endangered apprenticeships, the minimum class size was reduced in the school year 2021/2022. Nevertheless, certain professions, such as hairdresser and bakery, are no longer offered in Dillenburg due to low number of students.

membership in the IT generation

In contrast, there is an increasing demand for training occupations in the IT area, such as the IT specialist for digital networking or data and process analysis. These were established as a “state specialist class IT” in order to meet the requirements of the labor market. Headmistress Astrid John warns that long ways to vocational school could affect the popularity of some training professions. In order to counteract this, the school offers additional modules for tensioning mechanics and mechatronics engineers to help companies in the region.

Economic Director Prof. Dr. Harald Danne speaks of the challenges associated with vocational school development in Hesse. The various actors agree that they have to work closely to ensure the training of specialists in the region.

An important aspect of education policy is also the Intea language promotion. This enables the participants, external final exams such as the secondary school leaving certificate or the German language diploma (DSD I Pro). The DSD I Pro is particularly recommended for side entrants from the Intea program and documents the language skills for employers and advice centers of the Federal Employment Agency. These exams are geared towards the professional integration of those students who strive for training in the dual system.

The dual training system in Germany is perceived internationally as a model. According to the OECD educational report 2020, practicing practical elements promote good labor market results and offer perspectives for people with low and medium school qualifications. Compared to other countries in which school training systems often dominate, Germany offers 325 state -recognized apprenticeships (as of 2020) that enable more flexible and practice -oriented training paths.

The continuous efforts in Hesse reflect on the need for high -quality vocational training, which not only optimally prepares the young people for the labor market, but also ensures the regional skilled workers.
