At the weekend the Nassauer Kanu-Club 1950 e.V. (NKC) its 75th anniversary. The event, which took place on April 26, 2025, attracted around 100 guests to the picturesque Lahn. The chairman Kalli Wiemann looked back on the impressive history of the club during his speech and emphasized the milestones that have shaped the NKC since its foundation The association was founded in the summer of 1950 by a group of 40 citizens in the Hotel Nassauer Hof in the summer of 1950. The first canoe regatta was organized by the tourist association. Initially, the NKC started with folding boats, which have been replaced over the years by more robust wood, fiber optic and carbon boats. Today 80 boats belong to the existence of the association, including the legendary "flagship", which was purchased in 1957 and is named in honor of the late honorary chairman Edmund Noll.

ceremony and emotional highlights

The ceremony was accompanied by various greetings that highlighted the importance of the NKC in the city's club life. Among other things, Monika Sauer, President of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Sports Association, paid tribute to the NKC's merits in the areas of integration and inclusion. Wiemann also thanked committed helpers and sponsors, including the founding member Inge Noll. The “run of the heart” was called an emotional highlight, which sets the sign for the deep connection between the members.

The “Lahnarche” journey planned for the anniversary year unfortunately had to be canceled due to a technical defect. Nevertheless, the association looks optimistically into the future, not least thanks to the number of members, which has increased from 80 to 150 within 20 years. A proof of the growing interest in canoe sports in the region.

an active club with a visionary approach

The NKC has continuously developed over the years, in particular through the introduction of the dragon boat regatta in the 2000s. In order to enable the members a broader offer, the association provides seven stand-up paddle boards free of charge. Such initiatives not only show the commitment of the association for its members, but also the desire to further promote canoeing in the region.

In addition to these developments, the NKC remains active in various sporting associations. The Palatinate Kanu-Verband (PKV), to which the NKC belongs, is committed to the interests of the canoeing clubs in the region and promotes the procurement and distribution of public funding. This not only strengthens the association structure, but also shows the collective striving to make the canoeing sustainably and environmentally conscious.

The anniversary celebration was not only a look back at the history of the Nassau canoe club, but also a view of a promising future full of sporting challenges and community experiences.
