Winterchaos in Hesse: strong snow causes traffic problems!

Strong snowfall led to considerable traffic restrictions in Hessen on January 2, 2025. The German Weather Service warned of snow and smoothness and drew attention to the dangers in road traffic. In the Rheingau-Taunus district, the K703 between Seitzenhahn and the junction to Bleidenstadt was completely closed due to a truck accident, which also had an impact on bus traffic, as some line buses could not run. Cleaning vehicles have been in use since the early hours of the morning to make the streets passable again.

Despite the adverse conditions, many hikers and families used the winter landscape for leisure activities. Children in particular enjoyed tobogganing in popular places such as the "high root" and in the area of ​​the "Wiesbadener Platte". The football third division SV Wehen Wiesbaden was also not spared from the weather conditions: the training start was canceled, and the team of coach Nils Döring had to train in the gym.

In an earlier incident on January 19, 2024, there were already severe traffic disorders in Hesse due to snowfall and black ice. The A5 was blocked for almost a whole day, especially between casting and Alsfeld, due to cross -crossing trucks. A fatal accident on the A5, caused by black ice, led to a full closure of the highway. There were also traffic jams on the A3 that decreased throughout the day, but the A3 experienced a six-kilometer traffic jam between Bad Camberg and Limburg-Süd on Friday morning.

The ADAC reported that the traffic jams on the A3 became shorter and that the traffic situation relaxed during the day. In the meantime, over 300 of around 1000 flights were painted at Frankfurt Airport, and bus and rail traffic in the Rhein-Main area was severely restricted. Bus traffic was particularly affected in parts of the RMV area. The Deutsche Bahn also stopped train traffic between Gießen and Fulda for icy tracks, and regular bus traffic was set in Kassel due to black ice. The fire brigade in the region was prepared for numerous operations due to the winter weather, and the DWD warned of extreme black ice in several counties and cities in Hesse.
