Mobile speed camera soon: police announces speed controls!

From Monday, February 17th, the police will use mobile speed camera in Offenbach and Hanau to increase traffic safety. The locations of speed controls have already been announced in advance. This measure is intended to prevent accidents from excessive speed and cause a reduction in noise pollution.

The mobile speed controls are distributed on different streets. For Monday, March 24th, the following places are planned:

  • L3445, Langenselbold towards Neuberg, at the clay pits (accident focus)
  • A66, Hanau in the direction of Fulda, Bad Soden-Salmünster junction (noise protection)

These controls continue on the following days. On Tuesday, for example, the K903, Niedermittlau, and the focus of the accident at the Bad Soden-Salmünster junction are on the list. The L3193, Langenselbold, which has been identified as a speed hazard route, also gets special attention. The use of the speed camera will continue until March 30th.

expanded speed camera strategies

The police also plan to use so -called “light bleat” in the future, with the aim of reducing the noise through traffic in particular. Such an approach shows how seriously the authorities take the topic of excessive speed and noise pollution, which is perceived by the population as a pressing concern.

legal framework conditions

The responsibilities in relation to speed measurements are diverse. In Germany, these controls may be carried out by the state, municipality or commissioned private companies depending on the road species. However, the evaluation of the measurement results is reserved for a sovereign task that can be taken over exclusively by official employees. Ordinance offices are responsible for surveillance in closed towns, while the police operate on district and state roads as well as motorways.

For the city of Werne, a change in the law in the near future could mean that it can carry out speed controls independently. However, the responsibility remains with the police and district authorities.

Mobile speed monitoring is a central part of the traffic safety strategy. Citizens also have the opportunity to contribute suggestions to set up speeds if they document speed overruns. It is important to observe the legal framework, because for example, private speed cameras are inadmissible on a public reason.

The continued discussion about traffic monitoring and speed measurements shows the high priority that security on the streets has for the population. Measures to reduce speeds, as they are implemented in Offenbach, Hanau and possibly also in Werne in the near future, are a step in the right direction.
