Police modernization in Hanau: More security for all citizens!

The police reform in Hanau and the Main-Kinzig-Kreis takes shape. Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) and Daniel Muth, President of the Southeast Hesse police headquarters, presented the increase in police presence in a presentation today. This reform is intended to serve the security of the citizens by reorganizing the responsibilities of the police departments. On January 1, Hanau becomes independent again and receives a large city center, a project that has been discussed for 25 years. The police station on Freiheitsplatz will in future be responsible for the entire city area. Instead of three authorities, there will now be only one thing, which should significantly improve the coordination and response time of the police.

police officers who were previously responsible for various parts of the district will be housed in Langenselbold in the future. In addition, the police station in Gelnhausen will be increased in terms of personnel and will operate with three instead of two strips in the future. The number of strips is also increased to two in Schluechtern. In Kesselstadt and Großkrotzenburg there are two new “protectors on site”, which should ensure a better feeling of security. These measures should not only increase objective security, but also strengthen the subjective feeling of security of the population.

reactions to the reform

The reform has already caused a positive response. District Administrator Thorsten Stolz (SPD) described the concept as a "very good overall package". The integration of the station in the Großauheim district in the new structure as a day service is also seen as a step in the right direction. The exchange of properties between the police station in the Hanau Lamboy area and the motorway police in Langenselbold also testifies to strategic planning to improve security.

In the Ginsheim-Gustavsburg region, the police are planning to use civil servants as protective women and protective members in order to increase security in rural areas. This initiative is supported by the CDU and is part of the compass project, a local program with the aim of creating a safety seal for the community. Corresponding premises and urban contacts should be made available in order to successfully design the implementation.

at the same time, other local topics were also taken up in Ginsheim-Gustavsburg. While an application from the FDP to test urban gardening projects on open space for former playgrounds was accepted, a proposal for the installation of emergency columns to the Rhine and Main was rejected with a short majority. This shows the striving for the city to improve both the security and the quality of life of the citizens.

summary assessment

Overall, the reform of the police structures in Hanau and the Main-Kinzig-Kreis represents a significant step. The reorganization of the responsibilities and the development of additional police forces should ensure more security in the long term. In addition to measures on site, the comprehensive strategy for crime prevention, such as that is treated in the research series on cooperative security policy, is becoming increasingly important. The current discussion about local security cooperation shows that the topic of addiction and drug prevention plays a central role and is increasingly also focusing on security concepts.
