Large construction sites on rails: Travelers in Hesse have to prepare for delays!

Current construction work on the route between Hanau and Gelnhausen in the Main-Kinzig district have a significant impact on rail transport in Hesse. Deutsche Bahn (DB) is planning a four -lane expansion of the route, which leads to a limited train connection. These construction measures have been in full swing since April 17, 2025 and will stop by May 2, 2025, 5 a.m. Regional transport between Fulda, Hanau and Frankfurt is particularly affected, which means that travelers have to expect longer travel times.

In order to compensate for the disabilities, a rail replacement traffic between Hanau and Wächtersbach is set up. Long -distance traffic connections from and to Frankfurt are also limited. On the important axis between Berlin, Kassel and Frankfurt, the trains only run every two hours instead of as usual.

travel time extensions and diversions

The travel time on the route between Berlin and Frankfurt is extended by about 35 minutes. Travelers should also prepare for the ICE line Berlin-Göttingen-Frankfurt-Karlsruhe. Keep in Berlin-Spandau, Wolfsburg, Braunschweig, Göttingen and Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, instead the trains in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Leipzig, Erfurt and Eisenach.

The connection between Frankfurt and Fulda is also affected because the travel time increases by about 40 minutes. In addition, the ICE line Berlin-Göttingen-Frankfurt Airport is diverted, which means that stops in Fulda, Frankfurt Süd and Frankfurt Airport. From April 19 to 28, the stop in Stendal will also be eliminated due to another construction site, which extends the travel time in this section by around 35 minutes.

further restrictions in long -distance transport

The Situation in long -distance transport between Hamburg and Frankfurt also exacerbates: only two two -hour trains drive here, compared to three before. This leads to an increased travel time of about an hour. The Frankfurt main station is also no longer hit. The served trains on the Hamburg - Kassel - Frankfurt - Karlsruhe line are diverted, with the stop in Frankfurt Hbf no longer applicable and instead stopped in Frankfurt West. This extends the travel time by around 60 minutes.

In addition, numerous holds are affected on the ICE line Stralsund-Hamburg-Kassel-Gießen-Karlsruhe, and the connection between Berlin/Dresden, Erfurt and Frankfurt is also only offered every hour, which results in an extension of up to 60 minutes. The ICE line Berlin-Leipzig-Erfurt-Frankfurt-Stuttgart is also affected, with trains between Fulda and Frankfurt being diverted and holding HBF in Leipzig.

Overall, the extensive construction work of Deutsche Bahn is driving the modernization of the rail network in Germany. These measures are part of a long -term plan that is intended to block and fundamentally renovate important sections for months by 2030 in order to make the infrastructure future -proof. [ADAC] reports that a large number of large construction sites are already planned for 2025. This also includes work on the route between Essen and Dortmund as well as in the Berlin Knoten, which will lead to further diversions and travel time extensions. Deutsche Bahn appeals to travelers to find out about the current timetables at an early stage and to consider alternatives if necessary.
