Future for the House of Unity: all -day care for Gründau?
In Gründau-Lieblos, the former clubhouse of the singing association unity could soon be used as a location for the all-day care of the Kinzigtal School. After the association was dissolved in September 2023 due to lack of young talent, the building has been empty since then. The SPD plans to submit an application to the municipal council on January 27 to use the "House of Unity" for school support. The building, which has been transferred to the municipality since the association's resolution, is viewed as a suitable location in order to take into account the growing space requirement of the Kinzigtal School, which increases as a result of the upcoming legal changes.
Because from August 2026, a legal entitlement to all -day care for first graders at primary schools will be effective in Germany. This step is considered important for many families who urgently need the extended care offers. The SPD therefore encourages the municipality of Gründau with the Main-Kinzig-Kreis to take negotiations on the use of the former clubhouse. "A living space in the building would not be possible, but it could be upgraded to meet all -day care requirements," said local representative.
increasing need for childcare places
The legal entitlement to all-day care not only grows the demand, but also the space required in schools in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis. So far, childcare offers such as the "Digula" project, which have been working successfully with schools since 2019, have reached their limits. “Digula” now looks after around 140 children, but has seen itself faced with increasing demand in recent years and urgently needs further capacity for afternoon care.
The CDU member of the state parliament Max Schad recently attended the school in Langenselbold to exchange ideas about the nationwide implementation of afternoon care. It became clear that the schools faced significant challenges in order to meet the increasing requirements.
funding opportunities for the expansion of the facilities
The new infrastructure is also funded by financial support from the federal government. According to the "administrative agreement investment program all -day expansion", which came into force on May 17, 2023, a total of 3.5 billion euros are available to investments in institutions by 2027. These funds are intended for the expansion, conversion or new construction of space offers for all -day care. The Federal Government also says that from 2030 it wants to provide 1.3 billion euros annually for running costs. This ensures that schools do not face the challenges of an increasing number of students alone.
From August 2029, all primary school children of the first four class levels are entitled to eight hours of all -day care, five days a week, which further increases the pressure on the existing resources. The school head Winfried Ottmann and the State of Hesse have already announced that it will intensively support the expansion of the all -day offer.
Due to the planned measures and the joint commitment of politics and municipalities, Gründau could be able to not only meet the need for all -day care, but also to sustainably improve school infrastructure.
