Drug test offensive: Police controls 215 vehicles in Offenbach!
The police in Southeast Hesse carried out extensive drug recognition controls in road traffic from 13 January to January 15, 2025. The aim was to increase traffic safety and to proceed against the consumption of alcohol and drugs. These measures took place not only in the Offenbach police department, but also in the Main-Kinzig police department.
A total of 215 vehicles and 275 people were checked during the controls in areas such as Nidderau, Langenselbold and Offenbach. In these actions, 15 people had to hand in blood samples because they suspected drug or alcohol abuse. The police had preventive discussions and gave tips on improving traffic safety.
results of the controls
The check on January 13th brought several striking results. In Offenbach, an 18-year-old was stopped in a BMW M4 who had six envelopes with cocaine. This led to criminal proceedings for suspicion of trade in narcotics. A 35-year-old driver of a gray Opel Movano was also inconspicuous until a urine test was positive for cocaine. In addition, a road user was stopped under drug control without a valid driving license and insurance cover.
The controls in Hanau and Offenbach also showed a worrying result. Eight criminal charges for suspected driving under the influence of intoxicants were manufactured, with six of these ads concerned cocaine or opiates. Drug advances on THC were also positive.
additional violation
The police found further violations as part of these controls. Two advertisements were made for suspected illegal stay and one for falsification of documents. In addition, an employed driver received an open arrest warrant, which he was able to avert to a payment of 2,000 euros. A total of several administrative offenses were also written.
These drug recognition controls are part of a comprehensive police strategy in order to counteract the increase in drug trips, which has been continuously observed since 2000. In 2016, around 38,600 injuries in connection with drugs and road traffic were registered, which underlines the urgency of such measures. The increase is due to various factors, including the spread of medical cannabis, which has been legally prescribed under certain conditions since 2017.
The police not only hope for increased traffic safety, but also a sensitization of road users to the dangers of drug use in road traffic. This is also shown by the fact that the controlled people were offered information and tips to improve security on the streets. According to Maiz police will continue in the near future to ensure the safety of road users.
