District council is right about climate adjustment in the Main-Kinzig district!
The district council of the Main-Kinzig-Kreis will vote on an integrated climate adaptation concept this Friday, which represents the answer to the challenges of climate change in the region. This concept has been developed in cooperation with 17 municipalities since 2022 and has the objective of strategically addressing the regional -specific effects of climate change. According to Kinzig News , the Main-Kinzig-Kreis is particularly affected by extreme weather events, especially heavy rain. In addition, an increase in heat periods and increasing average temperatures can be expected.
The concept is considered an essential planning basis and is also crucial for the application for funding to carry out climate adaptation measures. It includes comprehensive recommendations for measures and scientific analyzes based on geodata to evaluate the flow paths, cold air flows and surface sealing. With the implementation of inventory recordings and calculations of possible climate change scenarios, the concept creates a solid basis for future decisions.
The role of the municipalities involved
A total of 17 municipalities are involved in the development of this climate adaptation concept: Bad Soden-Salmünster, Biebergemünd, Birstein, Bruchköbel, Erlensee, Flörsbachtal, Freifericht, Hammersbach, Hasselroth, Jossgrund, Langenselbold, Neuberg, Rodenbach, Ronneburg, Schöneck, Sinntal and Wächtal and Wächtersbach. The concept offers these municipalities various options for action as well as urban planning measures to counteract the existing and future climate change effects. After the approval of the district council, the corresponding local political bodies must take further decisions.
For funding from federal funds that can cover up to 90 percent of the costs, an official decision is essential. This financial support is an important prerequisite for actually implementing the measures contained in the concept.
nationwide measures for climate adjustment
in 2023 Germany has been the warmest year since the beginning of measurements in 1881, which underlines the urgency of the adaptation measures. The strategies include, among other things, the improvement of the accessibility of cooling green areas and the adaptation of agricultural companies to climatic changes until 2030.
Developments in the climate adaptation strategy, both at federal and district levels, show the increasing importance of the topic in Germany of the present and future. The Federal Government has recognized the challenge of climate change as a central task in order to increase the resilience of society, economy and ecosystems and to counter the best as possible through extreme weather events.
