SPD in the Main-Kinzig district fights for social justice and integration!

On April 26, 2025, the SPD made significant decisions in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis that will have a strong influence on municipal politics. The in -depth exchange about the current coalition agreement, which includes social democratic elements of action such as investments in climate protection and social justice, is the focus of the discussions. According to the membership vote to consent to the coalition agreement by April 29, 2025.

Andreas Hofmann, who was re-elected as chairman of the SPD in the Main-Kinzig district, emphasized the importance of local interests. He appeals to state politics to improve the living conditions of the citizens of the Main-Kinzig district. Sibylle Hergert, the mayor of Flörsbachtal, and Sevgi Idil Dağdelen, the chairwoman of the Hanauer SPD are new to the extended board. Both bring different perspectives into the party; Hermert is experienced in administration and business, while Dağdelen is strong for diversity and female leadership.

municipal finances in focus

A central concern of the party congress was the promotion of municipal finances. The demand for strengthening municipal financial equalization (KFA) in Hessen was clearly articulated by at least 750 million euros. This measure is intended to increase the ability to act and promote social cohesion. Tenants in particular are to be relieved by a socially just property tax cover in order to reduce financial pressure. These demands are also reflected in the criticism of District Administrator Thorsten Stolz, who described the cuts in the KFA by the Hessian state government as devastating. He sees a household gap of over 30 million euros for 2025, which will result from these cuts, which are over 200 million euros.

In addition, proudly complains that the state of Hesse also retains agreed federal funds for the accommodation and care of asylum seekers in 2025, which further increases the financial bottlenecks of the municipalities. He calls for the municipalities that are appropriate to the needs and appeals to the members of the state parliament and mayor to position themselves against these cuts. The need to tackle acute problems and not only manage defects is of great importance for local politicians.

new integration concept

Another important point on the agenda of the SPD was the guideline “Thinking Integration again”. This provides for a modern integration case management that delivers clearly defined expectations of immigrants. This includes, among other things, language skills, value acceptance and independence through work. The SPD also demands that integration become compulsory task of the municipalities, which must be equipped with sufficient resources. This approach should lead to better integration of immigrants into society in the long term.

The inner party discussion shows that the SPD in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis is determined to focus on the municipal finances and the integration of immigrants into the focus of their political work. The goal remains to significantly improve the quality of life in the Main-Kinzig district and to create a solidarity community. This will only be possible through the inclusion of all relevant interests and by commitment at the local and state level, as in the report of mkk
