Future of the hairdressing chain Domino in Marburg uncertain - bankruptcy opened!

The hairdressing chain Domino Friseur & Shop GmbH & Co. KG, based in Marburg, filed for bankruptcy in January 2025, as a result, the bankruptcy proceedings were opened on April 1, 2025. The provisional insolvency consultant Dr. Michael Lojowski from the law firm Brickmann & Partner was entrusted with the management of the procedure. Before the bankruptcy, the company operated a large number of hairdressing salons in Marburg, Wehrda, Kirchhain, Biedenkopf, Weilburg and Fritzlar, which were used by 50 employees and eight trainees.

The development of the hairdressing chain follows a worrying trend in the industry, which is primarily shaped by the challenges of Corona pandemic. Many hairdressing companies, such as the Klier Hair Group, suffered drastic financial losses. Klier also registered bankruptcy and was able to receive 850 of the originally 1350 salons approved by the creditors. This shows how serious the situation in the industry is.

Current situation at Domino Friseur

In the case of Domino hairdresser, the salons in Kirchhain and Weilburg are not included in the bankruptcy estate because they were handed over to new operators. The salon in the Marburg Hercules Center was closed in March 2025. The branches in Fritzlar, Biedenkopf and Wehrda are to be closed on June 30, 2025, unless you can find the right new operators at short notice.

An important date is imminent: For April 30, 2025, a believer meeting is planned, in which possible solutions for the remaining branches are to be discussed. On July 1, 2025, a written examination date for the registered claims will take place. If it is not possible to find new operators, the salons must be shut down by July 30, 2025.

sale of the residual equipment

In order to improve the financial situation, the residual equipment of the closed salons is also sold. The income from these sales will benefit the bankruptcy estate and should help to serve the open claims of the creditors.

The challenges that Domino Friseur faces are exemplary for the problems with which many companies are confronted in the hairdressing industry, in particular due to the continuing effects of corona pandemic. The case of Klier, which ultimately also maintained part of their business by reducing their branch network and HR master could serve as an example.

The events around the Domino hairdressing chain are clarifying the precarious situation of many hairdressing companies. In view of the challenges, it remains to be seen whether and how the situation will develop.
