Objection pollution in Marbach: Stadtwerke announce important solution!
On January 31, 2025, during the meeting of the Marbach local advisory board on January 28, an important discussion about the ongoing odor problem in the city. Representatives of Stadtwerke Marburg reported that the company under the direction of Managing Director Dr. Bernhard Müller will introduce a mobile dosing station for felling agents by 2025. This measure should help to reduce the odor pollution in the region, even if it is connected with costs.
Fortunately, currently there is no perceptible odor pollution in Marbach. The problems with unpleasant smells caused by gaseous hydrogen sulfide in the wastewater pressure line and increased sulfide formation have been known since summer 2022. However, measurements did not provide a health risk, which calmed down residents. In cooperation with the Marburg and Pharmaserv sewage association, the municipal utilities are looking for sustainable solutions to avoid the unpleasant smells in the future.
an expensive transition
The mobile dosing station is ironed into the wastewater and serves as a temporary solution until a permanently installed dosing system can be provided. For the rent of this mobile station, monthly costs of around 6,000 euros are incurred, while the estimated construction costs for the final solution are just under 250,000 euros. Pharmaceutical was identified as the indirect cause of the stench problem because the problematic gases are created at their pumping station.
fee adjustments in the community center
Another topic that was discussed in the meeting was the planned increase in the usage fees for the premises of the Marbach community center. The fees for family celebrations in the small hall are raised from 39 to 75 euros, while the rent for events in the large hall will increase from 176 euros to 450 euros. Clubs can continue to use the premises free of charge, and the local advisory board agreed to the planned increase.
To support the municipal infrastructure, it is crucial that local companies rely on innovative technologies, such as those offered by Alltech dosing facilities . The company has been developing dosing systems and components for over 40 years that are used in chemical dosage as well as in wastewater and drinking water treatment. Their flexible and adaptable systems could also be important for the upcoming challenges in Marbach.
These developments are carried out against the background of growing responsibility in the industry. The newly appointed managing director of Almawatech, Carolina Hupfer, will be from February 1st 2025 take over the sole management. With her extensive experience in water and wastewater technology, she will play a key role to deal with challenges in her industry and possibly also create synergies to support communities like Marbach.
