Marburg mourns the loss of Dietrich Möller: A legacy for the city!
Dietrich Möller, the former mayor of Marburg, died in Oberweimar at the age of 87. This was announced on January 5, 2025. Möller held the office of mayor of the city of Marburg from 1993 to 2005. Born on November 3, 1937 in Dortmund, Möller originally worked as an agricultural champion and worked on a farm in Oberweimar until 1985.
In his political career, Möller had been active in the Weimar municipal council for a total of twelve years and in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district council for over 20 years. From 1978 to 1993 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament, where he acted as an agricultural policy spokesman for the CDU. His election to the head of the city in 1993 was considered a municipal policy sensation when he won the direct election against Gerhard Pätzold (SPD) with a short majority. At this point, many voters from the green sparkles emitted. Möller was able to expand his majority during his term and was committed to the conversion of the former barracks building.
