Sustainability talks at the University of Marburg: Designing future!
The public lecture series "Sustainability" talks at the University of Marburg will open on April 22nd at 4:15 p.m. in the large auditorium of the physics department. The motto of the series is "Sustainability in the crisis - design future". The event is organized by "Green Office AG" in cooperation with Dr. Lukas Wagner, a physicist from the university. The aim of this series is to actively shape the change in view of the global crises and to illuminate different perspectives.
A central topic of the lecture series are questions about global nutrition, mobility transition as well as peace and security. The opening lecture is given by Professor Sören Becker, who speaks about "energy conflicts in Germany". Becker is a professor of sustainable transformation research at the Geography Department of the University of Marburg. As part of the series, contributions from speakers from Oxford, Cape Town and Cairo are also planned to promote a broader discussion.
diverse topics and impulses
The lecture series continues with a lecture by Dr. Juliane Schumacher on April 29, who deals with the question "incompatible? Climate policy and social justice". A highlight of the series will be the special session on June 10th, in which the documentary "Urmate - in the traces of money" is shown. After the film, a conversation is offered to discuss the topics.
The lectures take place on Tuesdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. both in the lecture hall and online via the BigblueButton platform. Some of the lectures are held in English for international participants. A detailed program is available on the university website.
global perspectives on sustainability
Ametepey sees the newly founded UN Youth Office a valuable platform to coordinate and finance the commitment of the youth worldwide. Imme Scholz, deputy chairman of the RNE and co-dog editor of the global sustainability report 2023, underlines the need to better understand the concept of transformation. It emphasizes that necessary changes also require the dismantling of existing systems, a process that is often painful and associated with resistance.
Scholz calls for an intensive inclusion of young people in national and international SDG policy processes. Their statements underline the importance of coordinated action within the federal government and across different political fields in order to cope with the challenges of global crises. The lecture series in Marburg could thus offer a valuable platform to promote these collaborations.
