Mayor elections in Hesse: Clarities and exciting stitch elections!

in Hessen took place on March 16, 2025 in several cities, including significant results and exciting stitch elections. In a total of six Hessian communities, the citizens were called up to coordinate their mayors. in Aarbergen, Marion Janßen, an independent candidate, was elected as the new mayor with an overwhelming number of votes of 70.54%. Her competitor, Karsten Bach, received 20.36%, while Ralf Diefenbach was only able to combine 9.1% of the votes. The turnout in Aarbergen was 63.74%.

The situation in Hofheim and Mörfelden-Walldorf

in Hofheim, Christian Vogt from the CDU managed to 48.14% of the votes, but this was not sufficient to reach the absolute majority. Wilhelm Schultze from the citizens for Hofheim (BFH) secured 31.98%, and Tobias Undeutsch from the SPD reached 19.89%. Here, too, there was a turnout of 52.62%, which leads to an upcoming runoff election between Vogt and Schultze.

Similar tensions can be observed in Mörfelden-Walldorf. Thomas Winkler received 35.85% of the votes from the Greens, Douglas Groß from the CDU 30.78%. Burkhard Ziegler from the free voters came to 20.4%, followed by independent Patrick Hohlbein with 7.95%and Alfred J. Arndt from the DKP with 5.01%. Here, too, there is a runoff election between Winkler and Large, whereby the turnout is 45.5%.

in Alsbach-Hähnlein, Sebastian Bubenzer from the CDU, the only candidate, was re-elected as mayor with 79.37% of the votes. The turnout was comparatively low with 44.11%. Markus Kern from the CDU competed against Matthias Springer from the SPD in Gründau and won with 64.5% of the votes, while Springer scored 35.5%. Kern succeeded Gerald Helfrich, who did not run again. The turnout was 51.48%.

In Hohenroda, Andre Stenda, also independently, was re -elected with an impressive consent of 83.14%. He is the only candidate and thus starts his third term, with a turnout of 56.9%.

At the same time, mayoral elections took place in other Hessian cities, for example the mayor of Alsfeld, Stephan Paule (CDU), was confirmed with 78.8%. In Aßlar, Christian Schwarz (FWG) was chosen with 77.4% for a second term. Hartmut Spogat (CDU) in Fritzlar received 66.3% and the challenger Marko Heckerodt in Ringgau prevailed against incumbent Mario Hartmann with 50.3%. Citizens' decision in Amöneburg

In Amöneburg there was also a citizens' decision on the renaming of Dr.-Josef-Gutmann-Straße. Gutmann had been criticized in the past as headmaster because of his violent acts towards students. The vote was positive with 53.4% ​​of the votes for a renaming, the turnout was 83.8%. The proposal for the new name "Vergissmeinnichtweg" was discussed, but this controversial decision is still pending and gives rise to further discussions that have been held since 2010.
