Beate Theis (59) took over the management of the Schwalm-Eder police department in Homberg on January 1, 2023. This police department includes the police stations in Fritzlar, Homberg, Melsungen and Schwalmstadt. Previously, Theis headed the North Directorate of the North of the Police Headquarters in Kassel-Referzehren. She started her career at the Hessian police in October 1985.

It extends over an area of ​​1,538 km² and comprises 11 cities and 16 municipalities, which makes the Schwalm-Eder district the second largest district in Hesse.

The road network in the district comprises 1,303 km, including 68.3 km motorways and 212.8 km federal roads.
