New bakery location in Lauterbach: Good Gerlach opens in May!

On December 30, 2023, the McDonald’s restaurant in Lauterbach closed after 27 years. Despite a remaining contract term of three years, Jörg Göttlich's location, the owner of the property, was approved for a new use. The bakery chain of good Gerlach will open a branch there, which is the third of its kind in Vogelsberg, in addition to existing locations in Alsfeld and Slit. Good Gerlach, which operates a total of 42 branches, invests a large six -digit sum in the renovation of the building.

The opening of the new bakery is planned for April or May 2025. The building is not torn down, only the McDonald’s logo was removed. It is also interesting that the mast for the advertising area is preserved because the approval for a high advertising area is difficult to obtain.

electric charging column remains in operation

Another part of the property is the electric charging column of EWE Go, which was previously installed in cooperation with McDonald’s. This charging station has been active again since the end of December 2023 and has an output of 150 kilowatts. It is the most powerful charging station in Lauterbach and can charge two electric cars at the same time. As a rule, an electric car can be charged within 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the vehicle type and state of charge. In addition, the charging station is operated with 100 percent green electricity.

In another part of the Vogelsberg, the Guten Gerlach bakery recently took over the property of the traditional company Carl Grebe at Bad Hersfelder Linggplatz. Carl Grebe was founded in 1877 and was a company for hardware and household items that had to hire its business in 2023 due to competitive pressure and unsuccessful successes.

Future plans of the bakery

The real estate sale not only includes the commercial building with a historical facade, but also an adjacent semi -detached house. Joachim Grebe, the owner, stated that the Guten Gerlach bakery was in the planning and finding phase for the new property. A new bakery concept is aimed at with an extended product range, which is run by the fourth generation of Nicole and Franziska Gerlach. Good Gerlach also operates 38 bakery branches in and around Bad Hersfeld.

The expansion of bakery chains, which also includes good Gerlach, is a central trend in Germany and Europe. According to a study by Gira, there are a total of 400 bakery chains in Europe with around 42,000 branches that generated sales of over 13 billion euros in 2020. Germany has most of the sales outlets, and above all the demand for premium products and regional concepts is promoting growth in the industry. New product developments focus on vegan, gluten -free and high -quality products.

Overall, the market for bakery chains remains dynamic, and the adaptation to modern consumer needs could be crucial for good Gerlach in Lauterbach and Bad Hersfeld.
