Canoe pleasure: Klever Kanu Club inspires at the Weser Marathon!

On May 12, 2025, this year's Weser Marathon took place, in which the Klever Canoe Club took part with 15 canoeists. In front of the marathon, the participants prepared with tours on the Fulda, Werra and Weser. Especially the event on May 3, the Werralandrallye, set an exciting accent. Here the members of the club paddled a distance of 20 kilometers from Bad Sooden-Allendorf to Witzenhausen. The day ended socially with a grill and cake buffet, organized by the Kanu Club Witzenhausen.

The actual challenge on May 4th started at 6 a.m. in Hannoversch Münden, where the Wesermarathon was started. Thousands of canoeists and rowers flocked to this popular event to cope with the different routes. The participants were able to choose between the bronze stage over 53 kilometers to Beverungen, the silver stage over 82 kilometers to Holzminden and the gold stage over 135 kilometers to Hameln. Most paddlers opted for the bronze stage and needed five to six hours.

Results and activities of the Klever Kanu Club

Three canoeists of the Klever Canoe Club took part in the silver stage. After paddling, there were again diverse grill and cake offers, proof of the sociable atmosphere that accompanied the event. Afterwards the canoes were loaded to cars, and it went back to the overnight stay in Hannoversch.

The Klever Canu Club looks back on a long history of relevant activities in water sports. The group, which founded the Kanu Club Hameln in the summer of 1929, included around a dozen paddlers. This community consisted of men and women of different ages and stands and was groundbreaking for the development of water sports in the region. The original boat equipment included self -made boats and other, then innovative constructions.

The Hameln canoe club has continued to develop over the decades. Martin Prüssen was one of the initiators and became the first chairman of the newly founded association. Over the years, the club became known not only for its sporting success, with numerous regattas wins, but also for its efforts to win new members, for example by introducing a dragon boat division. Today the canoe club has more than 400 members, whereby the majority actively participate in water sports.

In the past decades, developments in paddle sports have been significantly promoted by innovations such as the folding boat. Historical milestones, such as the construction of the first folding boat in 1904, laid the foundation for a flourishing movement that continues to this day. These developments not only shape sport, but also the community that has formed for water sports.
