125 years of Café Müller: A festival of the family tradition in Bad Nauheim!
On February 5, 2025, the traditional Café Müller will celebrate its 125th anniversary in Bad Nauheim. Founded by Franz Josef Müller in 1900, the café established itself as a fixture in the region. His long history is characterized by family commitment, culinary delights and deep rooting in the Bad Nauheim community. Today the café is led by Susanne Grimmel, born Humboldt, who has been running the company for 15 years together with her now deceased brother Matthias. After his death five years ago, the family company leads them solely with a committed team of 20 employees who guarantee a family atmosphere.
The origin of the café goes back to Franz Josef Müller, who was born in Koblenz and was trained as a master confectioner in Frankfurt and Tübingen. In his early years he took over Café Fritz at Aliceplatz 3 before moving to Kramm's house on Aliceplatz 6. In the 1920s, the café enjoyed great popularity and was referred to as the "treasure box". At that time, the Café offered 80 outdoor seats and grew to an estimated place for the Bad Nauheim citizens over the years.
from tradition to innovation
The Cafe Müller has committed itself to preserving traditions, but at the same time has also followed new ways to keep the high standard and further expand. On the menu you can find exquisite cakes, tea bakers, chocolates and wedding cakes, all made from our own pastry shop. Individual advice and planning for special occasions is also part of the offer, which shows how much you value quality and customer satisfaction in the café.
In the context of the coffee house culture, which has existed for centuries, the Café Müller is a local institution. Originally from the Ottoman Empire, coffee houses have a long history as meeting points for business people, artists and intellectuals. The importance of these places as the center of social exchange has existed until modern times, and Café Müller actively contributes to this tradition.
Special turning points in the history of the café include the time of the Second World War when it was confiscated as "Enlisted Men’s Mess" and provided around 140 soldiers every day. After the war, Franz-Karl Müller and his wife Emmy took over the café and continued its story. In 2000, the Café proudly looked back on its 100th anniversary and celebrated this anniversary with a comprehensive renovation. During the recent renovation for the 125th birthday, the interior in elegant Art Nouveau was preserved, while the floor was renewed.
Overall, the Café Müller not only reflects a rich tradition, but also shows that change and innovation can go hand in hand. The challenge of preserving old traditions and at the same time finding new ways is a constant task that Susanne Grimmel masters with flying colors. Their philosophy of keeping up the family tradition and always improving the quality of the products ensures that the Café Müller will continue to remain a popular starting point in the future.
