Bahn chaos around Frankfurt: Lack of Personnel ensures massive restrictions!

On New Year's Eve (December 31), there were considerable disorders in rail traffic around Frankfurt. Parts of regional traffic and two S-Bahn lines in the Rhein-Main area were affected. The reason for the restrictions was the short -term disease of signal box personnel, which could not be made available at short notice. These restrictions apply from Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. to Wednesday morning (January 1) at 6 a.m.

The RE2, which usually connects Frankfurt, Mainz, Bingen and Koblenz, ended prematurely in Rüsselsheim. In addition, the S-Bahn line 8 between Raunheim and Frankfurt-Stadion was diverted, so that they did not stop at Kelsterbach, regional train station at the Frankfurt Airport and Gateway Gardens. The S-Bahn line 9 was completely stopped from New Year's Eve at 8 p.m. to New Year at 6 a.m. In order to accommodate the traveler, replacement traffic on buses between Raunheim and Frankfurt-Gateway Gardens was set up. The S8 redirected was able to serve as a replacement for the S9 and the RE2.

long -term restrictions in regional traffic

In the coming weeks, however, there will continue to be restrictions in regional traffic around Frankfurt. According to the Deutsche Bahn, the reason for this is a lack of staff in the signal boxes. The timetables in the evening are thinned out, whereby the restrictions are expected to apply from Monday to the end of March.

The following regional train lines are particularly affected: the RB 40/41, which connects the Lahn-Dill and Schwalm-Eder with the Rhein-Main area, as well as RB 34, the Glauburg-Stockheim drives to Frankfurt. In addition, there will be partial failures between 8 and 11.30 p.m. on certain routes. Specific restrictions include: No connection between Frankfurt Höchst and Frankfurt Central Station on RB 12, as well as no connection between Bad Vilbel and Frankfurt Central Station on RB 34.

The S-Bahn line S1 will run in the relevant sections Flörsheim-Rödermark-Ober-Roden every 30 minutes instead of every 15 minutes. With the RE 20/RB 22 there are failures between Hofheim/Taunus and Frankfurt Central Station between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. With this thinning, the train pursues the goal of creating reliable offers for the other connections and better reacting to short -term failures. The railway is currently trying for more staff for the signal boxes, but this takes time due to the required well -founded training and familiarization. A similar strategy has been followed in local transport in Frankfurt with fewer trips from subways, trams and buses since the end of January.
