Protest wave against deportation: an outcry for justice!

On February 5, 2025, Tayyab D. was arrested in Bad Vilbel when he wanted to appear as an immigration office to extend his residence permit. The 33-year-old came to Germany as a toddler and lives in the city with his wife and two children, who are 8 and 9 years old. D. belongs to the Ahmadiyya belief; A tragic part of its history is the murder of his cousin in Pakistan. Due to psychological and health problems, he missed deadlines, which is why his family submitted an urgent petition against the impending deportation at the state parliament.

his fate is reflected in that of Bro Kheder D., which was arrested in the immigration office on February 10. The 21-year-old, who fled from Iraq in 2016 and belongs to the Yazidi minority, had just started an apprenticeship as a cook. When he was arrested, he was supposed to present wage certificates. Kheder D. also fears seriously for his life if he has to go back to his home country.

growing number of deportations

KHALID ESSAID T. is another case that illustrates the challenges of the deportation. The 30-year-old lived in Darmstadt for over 30 years, but had no residence permit. After the end of his tourist visa, he stayed in Germany to avoid the army service and found work in various cultural institutions. T. was arrested during a passport control and brought to a shared accommodation in North Hesse.

Although a supporting alliance fought against his deportation and a petition of the state parliament's hardship commission, which spoke out in April 2023 for a humanitarian right to stay, was deported on February 3. Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) rejected the approval of this recommendation and left the case in the uncertain.

action days against deportation

The number of detainees has increased significantly in recent years. According to organizations, over 40 percent of the detainees are wrongly detained. The new detention center in Darmstadt is to be expanded from 20 to 80 places by 2020, which triggers concern.

  • Events as part of the campaign days:
  • Sa, April 27th: Documentary “as voluntary as possible” and film discussion in Frankfurt am Main
  • Mon, 29.04
  • Sa, 04.05
  • Thu, May 9th: Film “Vol Spécial” in the student house, Frankfurt am Main
  • Sa, May 11th: Demonstration against the jail in Ingelheim, Mainz
  • Sun, May 12th: Demonstration against the jail in Darmstadt

These developments are in the context of a study by the BAMF, which deals with the administrative and organizational framework conditions of the deportation. The demands for respectful handling of people in deportation are loud, but the principle of proportionality often falls by the wayside, which is rejected by many actors.
