Büdingen plans medieval tower hill castle: a dream becomes true!
The association Burg Hofraite has ambitious plans for the construction of an authentic tower hill castle in Büdingen, on an area of 3.5 hectares. The aim of the project is to reconstruct the lifestyle of the eleventh century. Historical construction techniques and materials are to be used to create a nucleus of a medieval castle based on the model of that time. This is reported by the Frankfurter Neue Presse .
The city of Büdingen has already found a suitable location and plans to acquire the area for 80,300 euros. In addition, the city will exchange several smaller properties with the current owner. The location is located about 200 meters south of the Büdingen industrial area. In order for the construction to progress, the property to the Hofraite Castle is left to the association as part of a heritage law.
The entry into the construction phase
The planned construction project not only includes the Turmhügelburg itself, but also a modern building with an area of 500 square meters. A cafeteria, seminar rooms and sanitary facilities are to be set up in this. Another important element is the construction of a meadow sewage treatment plant that is realized by a company from Münzenberg. The first construction work could be carried out by volunteers, but the costs could increase with increasing professionalization of the project.
In addition, committee members have expressed concerns about the development of the property and the associated road construction costs. The lease agreement between the city and the association is currently being discussed legally and is to be presented to the committee at the next meeting. The association currently has 150 members and is planning a total cost volume of 13 million euros for the entire project.
design approaches and future prospects
The construction project pursues a holistic approach that not only takes into account the historical aspect, but also includes ecological and social factors. Regional materials and sustainable use of resources are to be promoted. Interested parties can actively participate in the construction and in other areas, which gives the project an interactive character. Workshops and excursions are also planned, including the participation of the textile archeologist K. Kania.
An important context of the project is the planned completion of the Turmhügelburg to the State Garden Show 2027. This should not only make the historical aspect tangible, but also promoted tourism in the region. Events such as the Spring Festival on the Glauberg and a historic Christmas market at Ronneburg Castle are also part of the efforts to achieve a wider audience and to spread historical knowledge of the construction and construction.
For a successful implementation of the project, the association receives support from Wetterau's business development agency and the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. In addition, a donation platform was set up to support the working groups and the project as a whole.
It can be seen that the combination of historical authenticity, experimental archeology and creative participation can represent an innovative model for future construction projects that would like to preserve the building history and cultural identity of the region. The website of the association Burg Hofraite provides detailed information about further events and opportunities for participation in this unique construction project.
