Friedberger Stadtkirche celebrates the return of the restored organ!

The Friedberg Stadtkirchen organ, a musical heart of the community, has been shining in new splendor since May 2022. This significant restoration of the 1965 Bosch organ was a joint project that was carried out over a period of twelve months. The total costs amounted to around 540,000 euros, which were financed by a combination of sound sponsorships, benefit concerts and urban subsidies.

The city of Friedberg supported the project with a grant of 15,000 euros in 2022 and recently presented another grant of 10,000 euros, which Mayor Kjetil Dahlhaus personally delivered to Kantor Ulrich Seeger. Seeger played the restored organ for the first time in the service and thus continued the long tradition of musical accompaniment in the city church. The financing of the entire project was also made possible by an interest -free loan of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN).

a diverse sound and technical innovation

The restoration not only included thorough cleaning, but also the renewal of the intonation and the exchange of tattered components. The organ was expanded by eleven new, romantic registered registers, which are located in two newly built organ works on the side gallery. The first considerations for revising the organ began at the end of the 1990s. The organ construction company Bosch from Kassel under the direction of organ builder Kilian Gottwald took over the demanding task. As part of the donation project "We are pulling all the registers", the parish has collected almost 428,000 euros for the organ project since summer 2012. Nevertheless, there is a remaining amount of over 112,000 euros, which is to be repaid by 2030.

a festival of music

The inauguration of the restored organ collapsed with a concert, which included works by Dvořák, Janáček and Rheinberger. This festival brought the community together and highlighted the importance of the organ not only as an instrument, but also as a cultural heritage. The parish is still looking for organ sponsors for the new organ pipes to successfully finish the project.

The Friedberg Stadtkirchen organ is not just a musical instrument; It is an important cultural heritage that is closely linked to history and community. Organs like this are considered the "queen of instruments" because they can create millions of timbres and thus create a distinctive sound space that enriches the spiritual and cultural life of the community.
