On March 20, 2025, there was a devastating apartment fire in the Oberen Weinbergstraße in Wingershausen. The fire brigade was alerted around 2:30 p.m. and arrived at the scene a short time later. When it arrived, the mountain half of the building was already in full fire, accompanied by heavy smoke development. The fire had its origin in the cultivation of the house and quickly spread over the roof of the residential building. The aerial ladder of the Gedern volunteer fire brigade was used to put the flames from above.
The emergency services opened the roof to effectively combat the fire in the roof structure. At the same time, extinguishing teams were also used on the ground floor level. Despite the intensive deletion measures, the situation was not yet under control at 6:30 p.m., as city fire inspector Rouven Keil announced. A total of around 85 firefighters from the Eicheltal and Niddertal fire trucks as well as firefighters from Schotten and Rainrod were deployed, supported by the Vogelsberg district fire inspector Marcel Büttner.

Fortunately, the fire did not have any injuries. However, the affected house is uninhabitable for the time being. The amount of damage is currently still unclear, while according to the first estimates, property damage of around 250,000 euros is accepted. Parts of the roof structure suffered significant damage, which also complicated the situation. The police have investigated the cause of the fire to clarify the background of the incident.The fire brigade was able to control the fire a few minutes after the first alarm, but the extent of the destruction was enormous.
