New repair café in Schotten: Together for sustainable repairs!
On April 23, 2025, a new repair café was opened in Schotten. The event took place in the multi -generation house and celebrated a successful start, to which numerous visitors came. Hans Dieter Herget, chairman of the Schotten neighborhood aid, opened the first event and emphasized the importance of the community idea and the volunteer work of the helpers. A total of 13 everyday objects could be repaired on this first meeting, including a steam station, a snoring teddy, a music system and a motor sense. The atmosphere was characterized by curiosity and practical helpfulness.
The Repair team worked with a variety of tools, including screwdrivers, soldering iron and multimeters. Visitors had the opportunity to bring their defective devices with them and actively help their repairs. Many of the devices brought with them were successfully repaired so that the participants left the repair café with functioning objects. In addition, snacks and drinks were offered, for which the volcanic baker and the multi-generation house were particularly thanked. This initiative aims to raise awareness of sustainability and create a place of encounter.
a place of sustainability and community
The Repaircafé in Schotten is an initiative of neighborhood help Schotten e.V., which aims to offer a sustainable solution for defective everyday objects. Supported by experienced volunteers and experts, the participants are committed to carry out repairs together. This concept is part of a larger trend that gains importance in Europe. According to Repaircafe.org , Repair cafés are volunteer meetings for the repair of defective items. Here people can expand their skills and learn how to repair different things. They not only offer a solution for broken electrical devices, but also promote the appreciation of repair knowledge and manual skills.
The next repair café in Schotten takes place on May 20 and will then take place every third Tuesday of the month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Interested parties are cordially invited, regardless of whether you want to bring a defective device for repair or just want to get to exchange. These meetings are open to all ages, especially for families and seniors. Participation is free and donations to cover the costs are welcome.
The measures of the Repaircafé attempts to achieve a change in mentality towards a sustainable society. In this way, objects are used longer, which avoids garbage and resources are spared. The organizers invite all citizens to become part of this sustainable movement and to make a contribution to environmental protection with their repairs.
