Wiesbaden gets new Alsatian park: green space for more quality of life!

On March 31, 2025, a significant step in Wiesbaden to redesign the Alsatian square to the Green Oasis was taken. The groundbreaking ceremony was ceremoniously set by Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, Mayor Christiane Hinninger and building director Andreas Kowol. This project, which has the goal of creating a new recreation room for the residents in the Westend, was discussed and planned for many years.

the Elsässer Platz, currently a parking space, will soon take on important functions as a green oasis. The redesign should not only benefit the city residents, but also significantly improve the small climate of the area. The temperatures in the summer months could be reduced by up to five degrees. Attractive elements such as a fountain with a water play area, extensive lawns and a terrace that can be used for activities are planned

sustainability and climate protection

One of the central concerns of the project is sustainability. The construction provides for reuse used natural stone coverings, which contributes to resource conservation. A cistern with a capacity of 200 cubic meters is installed as part of the innovative rainwater management system, which is created in cooperation with the Wiesbaden disposal companies ELW. This serves to collect rainwater to later irrigate the plants.

The redesigned park will also include the planting of 40 climate -resistant trees and the system of 3,000 square meters of lawn. In addition, 2,200 square meters for shrubs and perennials are intended to promote biodiversity and create a pleasant ambience.

financing and time frame

The total cost of the project amounts to 7.6 million euros. A great support comes from the urban development program "Growth and Sustainable Renewal", from which 660,000 euros could already be acquired from climate funding. The SEG Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft Wiesbaden accompanies the project, which should be completed by September 2026. For the residents, 429 parking spaces are also planned in a new neighborhood garage and 75 more in the northern area of Alsässer Platz.

The implementation of the idea to create the Alsatian park shows how important it is to rethink urban space and at the same time counter the challenges of climate change. This project not only embodies one step in the right direction for urban development, but also promotes the well -being of the residents and contributes to improving the city climate in Wiesbaden.
