Wiesbaden magistrate newly occupied: surprises failed to materialize!
On January 22, 2025, an era ends in the legal office of the state capital Wiesbaden. Achatz-Alexander from Jagow started his retirement in early November 2024 after around 40 years in urban services. He was the head of the legal office for many years and thus played an important role in municipal administration. Milena Löbcke, Head of Integration, Law, Health and Animal Welfare, commented on the departure of Jagow with the words that it was a big loss and thanked him for his tireless commitment.
In the course of this personnel change, Walter Wilkens was elected as the new head of the legal office. The magistrate opted for Wilkens, who has been in the legal office for over 16 years and has been the deputy head of office since July 2019. His knowledge is essentially based on the areas of local law and local constitutional law, Löbcke emphasizes as a valuable contribution to the management of the legal office.new elections in the magistrate
The elections for the magistrate in Wiesbaden took place in a special meeting that lasted until after midnight. There was an exciting choice that often came up with narrow decisions. However, there were no surprises. The city government was re -occupied in six positions, which resulted in political changes in the committee. An important aspect was the fact that the four -way alliance of the Greens, the SPD, Left and Volt was able to prevail in the first ballot and held a narrow majority of two votes in the electoral groups.
The choice of the treasurer, Hendrik Schmehl from the SPD, was particularly remarkable: he received 47 out of 80 votes. Milena Löbcke will also work in an extended function as a head of the health, immigration, integration as well as for legal office and consumer protection from July 1st. She was able to combine 44 votes. Patricia Eck (SPD) became the social and residential director of 41 votes, and Maral Koohestanian (volt) received 40 votes for a new department.
The role of local law
In the context of these changes, it is important to understand the role of local law that regulates the organizational structure and activity of municipalities. As part of public law, local law ensures that municipalities such as Wiesbaden can fulfill their tasks independently within legal limits. According to the Juraforum it is anchored in the Basic Law, Article 28, Paragraph 2.
The tasks of municipalities include both own and transferred matters, such as urban planning and construction supervision. The financing is carried out by municipal taxes and levies that are regulated in the respective local tax laws. This ensures the exercise of essential services and projects within the municipality.
The new occupations in the Wiesbaden magistrate and the changes in the legal office impressively show how dynamically the municipal landscape can be. The coming months will be decisive to set the course for successful and citizen -related administration.
