-TSME (early summer meningoencephalitis) is an disease caused by the TBE virus.
- Transfer is carried out by the stitch of a tick or by consuming raw milk products (e.g. goat or sheep's milk).
-Man-to-human transmission does not take place.
- Majority of the infected persons remain symptomless.
- Symptoms can occur in two phases:
- First phase: flu-like symptoms (fever, headache and body aches, general feeling of illness); Tapping bite often forgot, therefore often false diagnoses.
- Second phase: About a week after the first phase, meningoencephalitis can occur; Symptoms are again fever, nausea, vomiting, neurological failures.
- Serious cases can cause paralysis, swallowing and speech disorders as well as breathing rapids and strong sleepiness.
-Permanent vaccination commission (STIKO) recommends TBE vaccination for people in risk areas shown by the RKI.
-Risk groups: People who come into contact with the TBE virus professionally (e.g. forestry and agriculture), as well as people who carry out outdoor activities in risk areas.
- Vaccination is recommended for adults and children, both for first and refresher vaccinations.
