Help in the crisis: Volunteers support Haßloch fellow citizens!

The topic of food supply in need of people has gained urgency in recent years due to corona pandemic. Local initiatives are particularly required in rural regions that cover the growing need. In Haßloch, for example, the Tafel Neustadt-Haßloch e.V., which was forced on March 16, 2020, is involved in closing its doors due to pandemic. The return to the regular allocation of food was only carried out on April 22, 2020, but under strict security precautions.

The board has introduced a careful procedure: only one person may come to the output per household, while compliance with a minimum distance of 1.50 meters and wearing mouth protection are mandatory. Around 120 households in Haßloch regularly use the offer of the board. New helpers are urgently required to comply with these provisions, since many long -established volunteers come from the risk groups and can no longer be active. [Rheinpfalz] reports that the need to find new volunteers is urged.

volunteers from the community

Corona pandemic strengthened the isolation of many people, which increased the number of people seeking help. In order to meet these needs, the Facebook group "Corona Hilbre Haßloch" was launched. This initiative initiated by Sarah Neeland has set up an online platform to bring helpers and those seeking help together. Volunteers offer their support in various areas, such as shopping aids, messenger and walks with dogs. All heroes of this initiative act on a voluntary basis and free of charge.

The contact persons include Sarah Neeland, Jessi Asel and Thomas Störzner, who can be reached by phone or email. The DRK Ortsverein Haßloch-Meckenheim e.V. also plays a central role and brings volunteers with people seeking help. There are also offers such as "talking to each other", which offers support in isolation.

nationwide support for volunteers

At the federal level, the special measure was "strengthened volunteering. Sure." Started by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. This initiative aims to support the food distribution to the needy people, especially in rural regions. As part of this measure, 227 applications were granted, whereby the focus was particularly on the promotion of projects for food distribution and shopping aids. The funding period ran from August 2020 to November 2020 and helped to master the challenges of corona pandemic.

The funding pots not only covered personal protective equipment, but also digital equipment, so that the organization of auxiliary measures could be made more efficient. This support is part of the federal program of rural development, which aims to maintain rural regions as attractive habitats. Among other things, charitable organizations such as Caritas and various boards that work tirelessly on site are also used here.

The current situation and the challenges that Corona pandemic brought with it made it clear how important solidarity action is at local and national level. The initiatives in Haßloch and elsewhere show that even in times of crisis community and helpfulness are the key to surviving.
