Anniversary concert of the city chapel: a festival of music and emotions!
On Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2025, the rose garden in Zweibrücken turned into a lively backdrop for music lovers and families. The Stadtkapelle Zweibrücken under the direction of Justin Köhler gave a highly expected concert on the occasion of the Mother's Day. Numerous visitors flocked to the park and searched for places in the shade to enjoy the performance in optimal conditions.
The concert started with the stirring Johann Strauß march "Viribus Unitis". The performance of the city chapel continued with Jacob de Haan's "Pacific Dreams", which raged with its musical pictures of Australia. Another highlight was the "Concerto d’Amore" by de Haan, which skillfully combined baroque, jazz and pop.
Various program inspires the audience
The concert continued with Harold Walters' "Hootenanny" and a medley that presented the best known hits by Udo Jürgens like "Greek wine" and "But please with cream". Especially the Boney M-Medley, which included "Rivers of Babylon", provided enthusiastic clapping of the audience.
The jagged and lively Count Zeppelin Marsch was the end of the program, followed by the atmospheric ballad "Gabriella's song" from the film "As in Heaven". As an encore, the city chapel leaves the audience with Nico Dostal's "Aviation March", in which she thanked them warmly.
The concert was not only a tribute to Mother's Day, but also a testimony to the high musical quality of the city chapel, which had recently celebrated an anniversary concert for its 60th anniversary. In a sold -out hall, the chapel under the direction of conductor Björn Weinmann presented a multifaceted program. In addition to the large number of instrumentalists, the rock band Purple Haze also appeared from Zweibrücken, which also enriched the evening. The combination of rock elements and traditional brass music left a lasting impression among many visitors.
cultural setbacks and successes
The concert operation in Germany shows positive tendencies, although the numbers are still just below the pre-corona level. In 2023/24, around 15,000 concerts and events were carried out, an increase of 15 percent in regular symphony and choir concerts compared to previous years. Nevertheless, there are also concerns about financial incisions in public funding that could possibly endanger artistic developments and acquisitions.
With a look at the cultural landscape, the high capacity utilization in concerts underlines the restoration of interest in live events. The need for new concert and music theater sites, especially in cities such as Munich, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf, is urgent to secure and further promote the artistic diversity in the long term. The challenges of renovation in many venues must be addressed urgently to ensure sustainable self -financing and a flowering cultural scene.
The Stadtkapelle Zweibrücken has once more showed with its current concert how important such events are for the community and what joy it conveys, especially on special days like Mother's Day.
