Kapellen-Drusweiler: A village celebrates 750 years of history with many actions!

Kapellen-Drusweiler celebrated an important milestone in 2023: the 750th birthday of the community. But the anniversary could almost have been missed, which moved the village community to duly appreciate this important event. This special celebration is accompanied by the publication of a comprehensive village chronicle, which was launched by an initiative under the direction of Elena Kropfinger and Ulrike Job.

The chronicle, which comprises a total of 388 pages, was presented in January 2023 and includes valuable contributions from seven citizens and 13 external authors. But the work is not just a collection of memories; It is a testimony to the story of Drusweiler, which was first mentioned in 1179, and by Kapellen, whose first mention of 1275 is dated. About a third of the 600 printed copies have already been sold, which is of great interest within the community. activities in the anniversary year

Despite the importance of the anniversary, the municipal council decided not to organize a big celebration. Instead, 30 to 40 actions are to take place over the year. A “celebration flyer” will list all planned events. A highlight of the festivities will be painting old chairs by the village youth. In this creative project, 35 children designed 40 chairs that are used during the anniversary events.

The other events include the White Night on June 21 and the Keschdebuschfest on May 25th, while a new court festival is launched on August 24th with actions at three courtyards. Even if the community dispenses with large celebrations, the year 2025 is to be used to remember the past and celebrate the village community.

The local council also decided to actively involve the village community in the process of the anniversary celebrations. For this purpose, there was already a preliminary discussion for the anniversary activities on February 28, 2024 in the Wasgauhalle. Clubs, facilities and the population are invited to contribute ideas and actions. The event calendar for 2025 is currently being created.

The initiative is particularly highly emphasized to ask the citizens for their personal stories and photos. A public call in 2023 resulted in numerous contributions. Interested parties have the opportunity to send their photos by email to ulrikejob@aol.com or to arrange personal meetings for photography. Telephone stories or written contributions are also welcome.

For comprehensive documentation in the local history, the creation of a local chronicle was decided almost two years ago. Supported by archivist Simone Neusüß, the team will continue to work on the completion of the chronicle, which is planned for 2024. Various topics such as history, church, education, economy, political and club life are treated.

With gratitude towards the committed and internal and external cohesion, Kapellen-Drusweiler will remind of his rich legacy with a variety of activities and strengthen the community. The next big anniversary, the 850th first mention Drusweiler, is pending in 2029 and is already throwing its shadows ahead.
