Carnival in Rio: Samba, stars and the parade of the Champions!

on March 9, 2025, after intensive celebrations, the end of the carnival in Rio de Janeiro took place. The parade of the champions, in which the six best samba schools of the year presented, went into the early Sunday morning. According to Radio Hochstift began with the sixth-placed school, which had the first appearance. The overall winner, the Sambashule Beija-Flor, was chosen on Wednesday and honored her late ex-carnival director.

The parade offered an impressive variety of performances that addressed the cultural traditions and stories of the AfroBrazilian population. In addition, the school "Acadêmicos de Niterói" was celebrated as the winner of the promotion class and rewarded with a starting place next year. The last Blocos, which ended the carnival, also moved through the streets and created a exuberant mood.

star appearance of anitta

A highlight of the carnival was the appearance of the Brazilian superstar Anitta, which took place in the Sambodrome, the renowned venue with more than 70,000 spectators. The singer was given the honor of performing with her own dancers on a red carpet that was laid over the 700 meter long catwalk. Her show included the world hit "Envolver" and celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Tribünenstraße, which was designed in 1984 by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer. Over a million people were present at Anitta's appearance alone, which confirmed the Riotur tourism agency.

In the parade itself, the sambash school "Unidos do Viradouro" took an impressive way by showing the strength of black women and a snake cult, which brought her the title of the winner and emphasized the variety of cultures scheduled in Brazil. These show elements reflected the wealth of the carnival, which had its roots in the 17th century when the celebrations were brought to Brazil by the Portuguese. Originally they were connected by water and powder with exuberant pleasure.

an unforgettable festival

This year's carnival had the largest investment in the history of the state with 62.5 million Reais (around 11.6 million euros). With these enormous means, an event was created that prompted the city administration to expect a total of eight million visitors during the carnival. At temperatures above 30 degrees, the carnival was a real high summer experience.

The final blocos that moved through the streets on Sunday marked the final end of the carnival and left people in a last colorful and happy move. The mixture of tradition, music, dance and the celebration of the Afrobrazilian identity remains a central component of this unique festival, which is deep in the history of Brazil and remains alive in the present.
