Kassel welcomes new integration officers - together for diversity!

On January 14, 2025, Alena Schütz started her work as the new integration officer of the city of Kassel. The successor to Teslihan Ayalp, who has headed equal opportunities since June 2024, has extensive experience in migration work. Schütz was previously a consultant for immigration and integration in Wiesbaden and has already been involved in various areas of migration policy.

The experienced specialist who came to Germany as a child from Kazakhstan himself wants to reduce language barriers and reduce the everyday hurdles for immigrants. Schütz explains that a person's origin should not play a role in participating in society. Mayor Nicole Maisch emphasizes that Schütz knows Kassel well and can contribute to the integration work with fresh impulses.

integration as a task for society as a whole

Kassel has a diverse population, of which around a third has a migration background. This variety is viewed as an enrichment and shapes the individual lifestyle of the city society. Integration is not only seen as a task for migrants, but as a central challenge that affects all social groups. The basis for successful integration is openness, willingness to change and an equal dialogue between cultures.

The integration officer acts as a link between the city administration, institutions and civil society and supports the intercultural opening of the city administration. The tasks of the integration officers include promoting intercultural orientation and participation in networks and working groups. In addition, the strengthening of the participation of migrant organizations and the support of the acquisition of funding is discussed.

guidelines and fields of action of the integration concept

The integration concept of the city of Kassel, which is based on a unanimous decision of the city council, determines clear guidelines and goals. Six central areas of action were identified that form the framework for integration funding:

number area of action
1 Education and language support
2 culture/interculture and interreligious dialogue
3 sport and health
4 participation in the job market
5 live and live in the district
6 municipal administration - integration as a cross -sectional task

These fields of action are to be implemented together with central partners of the city, such as schools, associations and religious communities. Annual round tables for integration funding are organized for everyone involved in which the city administration actively participates through professional support and coordination of the process.

Overall, Kassel is committed to a respectful and equal coexistence of all citizens, in which integration is understood as a central permanent task of all social groups. In this way, the city remains committed to the challenges of integration, with Schütz playing a key role as the new integration officer.
