Kirchentag in Hanover: Church unity against the AfD!

On May 10, 2025, participants of the nationwide Evangelical Church Day in Hanover expressed a remarkable claim: the initiative of a ban application against the alternative for Germany (AfD). This decision is the result of intensive discussions about the increasing radicalization of the party, which was classified by numerous experts and politicians as secure right -wing extremist. Jon Klockow from the "Together against Right" initiative from Bochum confirmed that all the prerequisites for a corresponding ban were met and emphasized the urgency to withdraw the AfD resources and influence. A party ban is considered a crucial step to prevent further normalization of extremist views in society.

The reactions to this political initiative were both positive and critical. Kirchentag President Anja Siegesmund from the Greens described the classification of the AfD as "milestone" and thus called for support for the prohibition application. In contrast, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) expressed concerns and warned of overflowing decisions. He recalled the failed procedure for the NPD in 2017 and emphasized the need to carefully check the situation.

demonstrations and support

In addition to the political discussions, citizens are given the opportunity to actively participate. You can join the vote of the Evangelical Church Day next Sunday. Over 25 cities in Germany, including Berlin, Halle, Bremen and Munich, are the scene of events and demonstrations that support this political movement. In Essen there is a meeting for 2:00 p.m. in the green center, Rheinische Str. 24-55.

The idea of a ban received a lot of encouragement and applause from the political podiums during the church day. Constitutional law Christoph Gooss called for the initiation of a party ban procedure as a protective measure for the constitution. According to the current situation, such a procedure can only be initiated by the institutions of the Bundestag, Federal Council or the Federal Government, the final examination is the responsibility of the Federal Constitutional Court.

reinforcement of right -wing extremist currents

The context for this discussion is alarming. As described in the report of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the personal potential of violence -oriented right -wing extremists in Germany rose to around 14,500. According to the current figures, there are around 40,600 people in the right -wing extremist spectrum, which corresponds to an increase of 1,800 compared to the previous year. This increase correlates with an increase in right -wing extremist crimes that rose to 25,660 offenses in 2023, an increase of 22.4 % compared to 2022.

In particular, xenophobic violence has increased, with 933 violent acts in 2023, which means an increase of 17.2 %. The increased numbers show that the topics of migration and asylum gain in explosiveness and are increasingly exploited by right -wing extremist groups. The AfD has already announced that it will legally defend itself against its classification as extremist, which further fueled the political debate.

In view of the current political landscape and the overwhelming evidence of radicalization, the demand for a ban on the AfD is not only a step towards a clear social attitude, but also a call to defend the democratic values in Germany.
