Church tower in Gummersbach shines in new splendor after a millions of renovation!
The Evangelical parish of Gummersbach recently celebrated an important milestone: the completion of the renovated church tower. After six years of intensive renovation work, the tower shines in new splendor and was inaugurated with a lot of joy and gratitude. The celebrations include a service, a ceremony and a colorful program for all age groups.
During the ceremony, the musical choir under the direction of Annette Giebeler presented the song "Celebration". After the service, the tower bells finally sounded, which had not been able to ring for work for six years. The trombone choir from Marienhagen-Drrespe provided festive musical accents during the event.
tradition meets modern
Among the guests who were present on this special day, Pastor Markus Aust, Building Church Champion Frank Vogt, district dechant Christoph Bersch, Mayor Frank Helmenstein and Pastor Dr. Oliver Cremer. The church tower, now equipped with new oak beams and a fresh cross with a weather tap at the top, is significant for the community. A total of over 3 million euros were invested for the renovation, with the church district contributed around 600,000 euros by donations.
Basic work included the exchange of graywackstones and the consolidation of the stone fill with mortar. The roof of the tower was now covered with slate and the clocks were given new dials that were later auctioned. This comprehensive renovation was necessary to preserve the cultural and religious importance of the church, which has existed since the middle of the 9th century.
In the run -up to the celebrations, a successful “tower festival” already took place on May 1, which invited the community and friends to visit the renewed building. The reactions to the recently tested bells were consistently positive and reminded those present in the important role that the churches play in cultural and social life. Churches act as places for services, but also as cultural sites. The Evangelical Foundation for the Preserving of Church Monuments ( Foundation Kiba ) supports many such projects in Germany.
A look into the future
Despite the completed renovation work, there is still a challenge in front of the Evangelical parish: additional donations are required to ensure the provisional securing of the roof structure above the longitudinal ship. No less than 200,000 euros are required for this, and a carpenter will carry out the work to guarantee the durability of the roof structure for the next five to ten years.
The church tower of Gummersbach is more than just a part of the building; It is a symbol of hope and community, as district dechant Christoph Bersch emphasized. In times when many communities struggle to maintain their churches, the story of Gummersbach shows how important community and commitment are in order to preserve the cultural and social value of these sites. The accession to the Freundeskreis, which can be supported with a monthly contribution from 10 euros, is therefore recommended to all parishioners.
Overall, the renovation of the church tower shows that not only the structural integrity of the church is important, but also illuminates the soul of the community; A place for faith, gathering and cultural identity. The Evangelical parish of Gummersbach thus sets a strong sign for the future.
