The concert is led by Cantor Konrad Paul and is aimed at supporters of the ceiling renovation of the church. The German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) promotes the renovation work of the Apostle Church with 150,000 euros, a measure that is coordinated by the local curator Münster Sigrid Karliczek.
The Apostle Church, which has been serving as the city's Protestant Church since 1840, stands in a central town in the northern part of the historic old town of Münster, between St. Lamberti and the promenade belt. Originally built as a monastery church of the Franciscans in the second half of the 13th century, it is considered the oldest purest Gothic church building in Westphalia. In addition, the church is of great importance both architecturally and historically, since it reflects the development of Gothic architecture in Germany.
a history of rich tradition
The construction work at the Apostle Church probably started in 1247 when the Franciscans were located in Münster. The main ship as well as the choir and the southern aisle were completed by 1284. The church is a three -aisled indoor church, which was built in the pharmaceutical order and is divided with high tranquility between buttresses. The construction shows the majestic appearance of the Gothic architecture, which is known for its vertical orientation and artistic stained glass.
The church was profanedAfter the secularization and the dissolution of the monastery. The reconstruction and the restoration, led by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, led to a new inauguration in 1822. During the Second World War, the building suffered significant damage that was remedied until 1960. As a result, the Apostle Church is not only a place of faith, but also a testimony of municipal cooperation and cultural progress in the region.
architectural peculiarities and cultural appreciation
The Apostle Church impresses with its three -aisled hall church and the narrower, retracted choir. The interior is simply designed, but with highly interesting vaulted paintings that date from the 1930s and show motifs from the 15th to 17th centuries. These paintings are among the most beautiful of their kind in Westphalia and tell stories that are deeply anchored in religious iconography.
The church also has a modern organ, which was built by Paul Ott in 1968 and is equipped with 36 registers. This organ replaces a former instrument by Friedrich Ladegast, which was installed in 1879. In the outer wall of the church there is a memorial stone from the 15th century, which is considered a cultural heritage, among other significant equipment such as a crucifix and a picture board by Heinrich Gerhard Bücker.
With the support of the DSD, the Apostle Church is not only restored, but remains a central place of faith and community. The planned renovations help to preserve the symbolic and cultural meaning of this historical building and inspire future generations. The symbiotic connection of history, architecture and community can be experienced in the upcoming organ concert, which will certainly attract many visitors and the deeply rooted tradition of the apostle church in Münster.
