Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj has once again accused Russia of deception with regard to possible peace negotiations. In a statement, he explained that Russia often talks about his willingness to accept American suggestions, but no concrete preparations for an armistice were recognizable. These comments come at a time when Russia intensified his attacks on Ukraine after a short decline in Easter. Up to this point,on the military activities since the beginning of the exploratory talks on March 11 in Dschidda has used around 8,500 aircraft bombs, 200 rockets and over 3,000 Kamikaze drones against Ukraine. Despite this escalation, Ukraine is ready to become an unconditional ceasefire, which Selenskyj emphasized in several one-on-one discussions with international leaders, including US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. Current military developments
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow expressed that progress in discussions about a possible peace regulation had been made. He confirmed that Russia was willing to expose attacks on the energy infrastructure, but this was rated as unrealistic by the Russian UN ambassador. Despite the difficulties in discussions with the USA, US Vice President James David Vance hopes for positive developments in Rome, where he spoke to Italy's head of government Giorgia Meloni about perspectives for peace negotiations. mdr
international reactions and agreements
In a further step, a raw material agreement between Ukraine and the USA in Washington was signed in a further step. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal will travel to the United States for final negotiations. This agreement provides for the creation of a joint investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine. In the meantime, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected Selenskyj's allegations that affect Russia. The allegations were titled as “baseless” and “political manipulation” MDR .
The need for a broader European participation in the talks was also underlined by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He sees the ideas of Great Britain, France and Germany as helpful to promote a permanent peace in the region.
