Cultures united: Mettmann invites you to an intercultural asparagus meal!

The project "Essen connects cultures", which was launched in Mettmann, continues its successful work. On April 11, 2025, another event took place in the rooms of the AWO local association, in which over 40 participants, men and women of all ages came together. The aim of the project is to bring people from other countries closer to German culture and to promote intercultural exchange. Especially in the focus of the current event, families from the Afghan culture group were invited to share their experiences and get to know the residents of Mettmann better. SuperTipp-online.de reports that the initiative is carried out by the AWO local association and the integration council and that the continuation of the project by the GIMMENT "Donations instead of Böller" as well Funds of the federal program “Living Democracy”.

Frederic Kipp, the city's integration officer, expressed his gratitude for the financial support, without which such events would not be possible. He pointed out that the project should be fully financed by donations from next year. This shows the commitment of the community and the desire to further expand the intercultural dialogue.

Intercultural exchange in Mettmann

The “Essen connects cultures” project was initiated to create a room for exchange and encounter. With a variety of events, including joint cooking evenings, it teaches the participants not only German culture, but also the cultural background of the invited guests. At an earlier event, Ukrainian refugees and members of the Mettmann Senior Council came together. Almost 30 people took part in this aspect of asparagus, in which discussions about German and Ukrainian culture and the challenges for displaced persons in Germany were in the foreground. mettmann.de emphasizes that despite linguistic barriers, the focus was on community and exchange.

The support for such projects comes not only from the local population, but also from the state government, which promotes the integration and participation of refugees and new immigrants through programs such as “Komm-A-NRW”. This shows the interaction of local initiatives and nationwide grants that have the goal of facilitating integration.

With the continuation of "Essen connects cultures" it becomes clear that the intercultural exchange in Mettmann is not only possible, but also necessary.
