important award winners and awards
Some of the outstanding award winners of the Ruhr Prize are Prof. Dr. Benjamin List from the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research and the internationally recognized painter Eberhard Ross. Both received the award in 2013, which was awarded on December 15th in the Foyer of Sparkasse Mülheim an der Ruhr. Mayor Dagmar Mühlenfeld illustrated the importance of art and science for society in her welcoming speech. The laudation for Benjamin List was held by Prof. Ferdi Schüth, who described the chemist as "the artists of the nuclear one". Eberhard Ross' works that are inspired by Zen teachings are characterized as "bionic art" and address the time by calling the viewers to decelerate.
Both award winners received an award of 3,000 euros. The preparatory committee, which was responsible for the awarding of the price, was made up of several members, including Gijs Burger, Prof. Hendrik Dorghen and head of culture Ulrich Ernst, supported by Sparkasse Mülheim, who sponsors the prize. These awards are proof of the strong commitment of the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr for the promotion of cultural diversity and scientific excellence.
