Ursaurier Boldi conquers the hearts: plush toy available in the museum!
A year after the remarkable discovery of the Ursaurier Stenocranio Boldi on Remigiusberg near Rammelsbach in the district of Kusel, a new plush animal is now launched. The cuddly toy, which will conquer the hearts of dinosaur lovers and collectors, is the result of the work of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate (GDKE). This provided a detailed profile that Boldi not only describes as a "narrow chädler", but also emphasizes that the plush toy is harmless and wants to experience adventure. The dimensions of the Plüschboldi are not known, but it is available for € 13.90 in the museum shop of the Urweltmuseum Geoscope at Lichtenberg Castle, where the original fossils are also exhibited. Alternatively, the plush toy can also be ordered via the official GDKE website.
The GDKE looks after a variety of valuable cultural treasures of Rhineland-Palatinate, which include both history and archaeological finds and sites. The introduction of the plush boldi is a perfect way to promote interest in primeval time. According to GDKE, the accompanying profile tells the fascinating story of the original. Stenocranio lived about 300 million years ago and was one of the greatest predators of his time. The previous finds date from 2013 and 2018 when international research teams identified the new species.
The Ursaurier Stenocranio
The Stenocranio occupied the ecological niche of the later crocodiles and lived in both water and on land. With a weight of about 70 kilograms and a length of around 1.5 meters, it was a significant presence in his area. His prey included both fish and meat, mostly lurking in the shallow water and on shores to encounter. The region in which Stenocranio lived was a tropical river and lake landscape at the time, which was near the equator and is now known as the Lorraine-Saar-Nahne basin.
fossils of these old species are particularly rare, so far there are only finds in Thuringia and the USA. This fact emphasizes the importance of discovery on the Remigiusberg. In the area, which is considered the rich in fossil finds, researchers have also discovered an almost intact skeleton of another primeval species.
a look into the past
The Ursaurians lived long before the dinosaurs, who only appeared about 60 million years after the Stenocranio appeared. This temporal distance makes the discovery of the Stenocranio and the presentation in the Urweltmuseum Geoscope particularly significant. Here visitors can not only acquire the plush toy, but also look at the original fossils, which makes the museum a fascinating goal for young and old.
Thanks to the continued efforts of the GDKE to learn more about these mysterious creatures of the past and to preserve the cultural heritage, the exciting story of Stenocranio Boldi not only remains alive in the academic field, but is also celebrated in the children's rooms in the region.
