Truck fire on A7: Full closure after a technical breakdown!
On the evening of February 6, 2025, a dramatic truck fire occurred on Autobahn 7, in the direction of Fulda, shortly before the Kirchheimer Dreieck. The incident occurred around 6:55 p.m. and led to a full closure of the road for around two hours. The 38-year-old Ukrainian driver was able to leave the cab in good time after he had taken a fire smell and steered his truck on the hard shoulder.
The truck, which is approved in Poland, transported general cargo, including dishwasher tabs, for a food discounter. Despite his immediate attempt to fight the fire with a fire extinguisher, the fire had quickly got out of control. When the Kirchheim fire brigade arrived with 60 emergency services, the vehicle was already in full fire.
use of the fire brigade
However, the fire brigade was able to prevent the spread of the fire to the adjacent slope area and quickly extinguish the fire. The driver was unharmed, but an approximately 50 meter long oil track was found behind the vehicle. The suspected cause of the fire is attributed to a technical defect in the engine compartment. The estimated property damage amounts to around 80,000 euros.
During the rescue work, the first and second lane of the highway remained closed, while the left lane could be released in the meantime. The traffic was diverted at the Bad Hersfeld-West junction. A further reference to the dangers of truck fires was given by a similar incident in November 2024 when a truck burned out with sweets on the A7
additional incidents
In another incident on the A7, which recently occurred, a truck fire was found in the direction of travel north, shortly after the Quickborn driveway, at 12:30 p.m. Here, too, a fire occurred due to a suspected defect on the brake. This time the fire brigade could not prevent the tractor's full burning out, but the spread was stopped to an adjacent embankment. The traffic was passed by one lane, and the driver was also unharmed in this case.
The motorway master's shop checks the road surface for possible damage after the towing measures in order to restore traffic safety as soon as possible. The accumulation of such incidents is likely to provide concern and could result in increased security controls. HNA reports on the A7, while Blaicht-news provides further details about previous truck fires. Such events illustrate the challenges that freight traffic brings on the street.
