Massive construction work on Kohnhofstrasse: What the residents need to know!
On May 8, 2025, a civil engineering company started the work on Kohnhofstrasse by starting to dig a trench. This project serves to continue the power line by the municipal utilities, which is laid along the Schwarzbach. The construction site on the cycle and footpath on Kohnhofstrasse, especially between the new postal distribution center and the Tadano plant Dinglerstrasse, is particularly striking. The construction work, which is expected to take about six weeks, also require a 20 kilovolt cable in the new trench.
In this context, the Rheinpfalz provides information that train holes must be prepared in the area in front of the Gasseg and the Tadano pedestrian bridge. The Kohnhofstrasse is currently narrowed to almost two meters wide due to the work that started in 2023. Part of the power line could already be laid next to the remaining asphalt strip. The walking and cycle path is temporarily covered with gravel, and the narrowing of the road will remain for some time, since it will also be worked on the way in the coming weeks.current traffic situation
In addition to the construction work on Kohnhofstrasse, there are also innovations in nearby Emmy-Noether-Straße. This one-way street, which runs parallel to Sophie-Germain-Straße and leads to Steinbühler Strasse, was released for traffic in October 2023. The new expansion of the southern directional lane of the Emmy-Noether-Straße has significantly changed traffic in the area.
The Kohnhofstrasse has lost its function as a thoroughfare through the construction work and is now only a residential road, which makes it impossible to pass through motor vehicles. Cyclists, on the other hand, can still easily get from Kohnhofstrasse to Steinbühler Straße. From the Emmy-Noether-Straße there are several ways to drive to Steinbühler Straße and the neighboring streets.
Transport and signage-related adjustments are planned in the area north of Kohnhofstrasse. Meanwhile, the Steinbühler Straße from the direction of Plärrer remains a single -lane passing by the construction site. Pedestrians can easily reach the “Steinbühl” tram stop from the east side of Steinbühler Straße.
future developments
The changes in the transport infrastructure are part of extensive renovation work, which are still standing at the intersection of Kohnhofstrasse / Steinbühler Straße. The cost estimate for the partial new building amounts to around five million euros. In the long term, Emmy-Noether-Straße will be designed as an important development road for various companies and the future fire station of the Nuremberg fire department. The construction of the fire brigade center is planned in the western area of Emmy-Noether-Strasse.
In addition, measures to improve pedestrian and cycle path tours in the intersection areas are intended. This includes the extension of the pedestrian islands of the “Kohnhof” tram stop and the equipment of all transitions with a blind control system. These developments will not only increase traffic safety, but also improve comfort for all road users.
Overall, it can be seen that the construction work on Kohnhofstrasse and the associated transport adjustments represent both challenges and opportunities for local infrastructure. The progressive implementation of the measures is a good step towards improved transport connections in the region.
