Mönchengladbach celebrates grandiose anniversaries and the hockey European Championship 2025!

On January 6, 2025, several important anniversaries and events are on the program in Mönchengladbach. The city association Wickrath, Rheydt and Mönchengladbach is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. The Theaterhe Mönchengladbach Rheydt can also look back on 75 years. Borussia Mönchengladbach also celebrates an impressive 125th anniversary. The cultural offer is supplemented by numerous concerts in the Sparkassenpark, which will act as a central event location.

One of the highlights in the event calendar is the European Hockey Championship, which will be held in the Sparkassenpark in August 2025. The "Move & Groove" festival, which has been held on the Rheydter marketplace in the past, is moved to the Hugo-Junkers-Park and from now on only takes place in one day. MGMG explained that the park area is better suited for trying out sports than the marketplace. Mönchengladbach will also be the venue for the Bundeschützenfest on the third weekend in September.

European Hockey Championship in August 2025

The EuroHockey Championships 2025 will take place in the Sparkassenpark in Mönchengladbach from August 8 to 17, 2025. In a total of 40 games, 16 teams, all of which rank among the top 25 in the world rankings, will fight for the medals. The opening game of the German gentlemen against France will be held on August 8, while the German women will play their first game on August 9, 2025 against France. For August 11th there is a hotly expected duel between Germany and the Netherlands on the program, which is expected to be sold out quickly.

The organizers have already been able to record a high demand: half of the tickets for the final days on August 16 and 17, 2025 has already been sold. The German women will also compete against the Netherlands, Ireland and France in the group phase, while the men meet in England, France and Poland. Four of the best men's teams are the Netherlands, Germany, England and Belgium; The women, Belgium and Germany are among the top teams for women. Another highlight will be the finale of the Special hockey European Championship in the Gladbach Hockey and Tennis Club. The entire tournament promises high emotions and a great atmosphere in the Sparkassenpark.
