On February 6, 2025, Mönchengladbach organized the primary schools hockey indoor cup, an event that strengthens the anticipation for Eurohockey Championships in August this year. Over 100 children from various daycare centers took part in the Hockey Hockey Halle Cup daycare center, which took place in the GHTC Sports Dome of the Gladbach hockey and tennis club. At this tournament, the focus was on the fun of the game, supported by a supporting program of the children, youth and family department.

As part of the primary schools hockey hall cup, which was organized in two performance classes, beginners were also able to take part and gain initial experience in hockey. The participating teams showed a lot of commitment and sports spirit. The placements in the young cup were as follows:

2. Catholic primary school Untereicken
3. Team 1 of the Vitus School

In the main class, the Montessori primary school secured the city championship title, while the teams of the Vitus School took second and third place. The tournaments were not only perceived as sporting highlights, but also offered a platform for children to experience team spirit and fairness.

anticipation for the Eurohockey Championships 2025

The EuroHockey Championships 2025 take place from August 8th to 17th in the Sparkassenpark in Mönchengladbach. The event will present 40 exciting games with 16 of the best hockey teams worldwide, including the currently leading teams of both men and women. These championships are organized by the German Hockey Bund (DHB) and are characterized by the participation of over 70,000 fans at the last event 2023.

Half of the tickets for the final in the last week of August has been sold. One of the outstanding games is the duel between Germany and the Netherlands of women on August 11, 2025. On the opening evening, the men of Poland compete against England, followed by a duel between Germany and France in Group B.

qualifications and future of hockey sports

of the 16 participating teams have already qualified by reaching the top six in 2023. The remaining places are determined in qualification tournaments that take place in Vienna, Dublin, Glasgow and Douai. The champions not only receive the prestigious title, but also the opportunity to take part in the 2026 World Cup.

Eurohockey President Marcos Hofmann and Mönchengladbach Mayor Felix Heinrichs have expressed a positive statement about the return of the championships to the city. Both emphasized the importance of such events for promoting hockey in Germany. In parallel to the main event, the Eurohockey ID Championship will take place in the GTHC for five days.
